Implicit Bias Training
Implicit bias training or unconscious bias is the result of the brain’s effective collection and storage of information into patterns that are quickly and easily accessed to make fast decisions which could be life-saving. This time-saving and unconscious system is not solely limited to protecting from danger. It is used all the time in everyday life. When biases reflect negative stereotypes about groups of people (i.e. aged, poor, gender, race, religion, weight, sexual orientation, insurance type) it may contribute to health inequities.
Our training focuses on physiology and scientific evidence for the existence of implicit bias. Dr. Massey’s broad experience as a health care provider as well as her lived experience as a member of several marginalized groups form the basis of her training approach. Based on recent data, the issue is framed systemically without blame, interactive, and solution-focused.
